How do I get my website higher in Google? That is a question we get asked regularly. Not everyone knows how the search engine works, in fact no one knows exactly. Take Google, for example. Unfortunately, they do not publish any tips or tricks to help you find what is effective. We do know, however, through the years, what works and what does not. Because let’s face it: everyone wants to be at the top of the search results, right? When you get a good ranking in Google, visitors come to you organically. And that is what you want! How do you get your website to the top of Google? You can read it in this blog.

Is your website technically sound?

You can still do your best to rank high in the search engine, but if your website is not technically sound and lacks structure, visitors will stay away. It is important to look at the user experience (UX/UI). An optimal user experience ensures more time on page, a low bounce rate and ultimately also ensures that you score better in Google.

Important to determine on which search terms you want to be found

Before you start optimising your website, it is important to determine the search terms for which you want to be found in Google (or another search engine). Of course, you want to rank high on search terms that are frequently searched for and that fit your business. And that is not so easy. It is difficult to find keywords that meet both requirements. We use paid tools for this, but you can also do this yourself to a certain extent with tools such as Keyword Tool from Google Ads. That will get you a long way.

Ranking factors of Google

According to Google, you have to comply with a number of points in order to actually end up at the top of the search results. Google uses dozens of ranking factors. These factors together determine the ranking of your website. Examples include: loading time, structure, backlinks, responsive design, keyword optimisation, security and search intent. Every year, these factors are published again with adjustments. It is therefore important to keep abreast of the latest developments of the search engine(s).

Search engine optimisation carried out by experts

Up to a certain point, it is doable to optimise your website yourself. But is it wise? To get the hang of SEO, you will need to invest a huge amount of time that you probably don’t have. We therefore think it is wise to optimise your website and rank it higher in Google by outsourcing. A lot can go wrong in SEO and in many cases it is difficult to fix.
